My name is Dotty Nygard, and I am running for City Council.
As a Registered Nurse and an advocate for patients, as a long-time member of this community, and most importantly as a mother and grandmother, I am honored to seek the opportunity to serve the great city of Tracy.
I am a community activist who has spent my life advocating on behalf of families and the Tracy community. That’s why I’m thrilled to announce my run for the Tracy City Council.
Previously a congressional district candidate and Riverbank City Council member, and a long time resident of Tracy, I understand that the role of a council member is to be a voice for all residents, to focus on the issues and to work with constituents in devising a plan that will address the needs of everyone in our community.
That’s why I commit to listen, to share, and to build a bond of trust with the residents of our city. Because in our beautiful community of Tracy, we have work to do.
We need to provide better TRANSPORTATION in and out of Tracy, as well as within our city. As Tracy grows, so has our carbon footprint, and our traffic. Our city leaders must put together a plan now that addresses our immediate traffic situation, as well as provides for longer term growth.
We need better local JOBS that pay a living wage so that people can live and work in Tracy, so people don’t have to trek over the Altamont pass every day just to earn decent wages. We must find innovative solutions to bring jobs home.
We need to provide a quality EDUCATION to our young people. Education opens the doors of possibility for individuals to enrich their lives in terms of civic engagement and employment potential. As our community starts to bring in new jobs, we must deliver the college and technical training our residents need to qualify for those jobs.
We need to address the HOUSING needs in our community. From creating low income housing, to providing senior housing, need based housing solutions will address the need of families regardless of income or age. We must work together to ensure all Tracy's housing needs are met and that Tracy’s a great place to live for all its residents.
We need to protect our ENVIRONMENT from the sometimes toxic side-effects of industries that operate near our city. While some industries bypass safety concerns and ignore long-term effects of their activities on our ecosystem, all too often it’s the residents of the Central Valley whose health is compromised as a result. Our industries can do better by the people of Tracy. We must ensure that our environment is safe for our current and future residents.
My entire career has centered on helping people, and I continue to answer the call to help our neighbors and our city. As a nurse, I have a first-hand knowledge of Tracy family needs and struggles, and I pledge to continue advocating for a healthy and vital community. Serving the Tracy residents gives me a great sense of pride, and I am grateful to call Tracy my home.
As your City Council Member, I commit to LISTEN to you, to stand FOR you, and to work WITH you!
I humbly ask for your support and your vote.
